Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has urged industrial enterprises to "put product quality first" to promote sound and fast economic development.

During a visit from June 25-27 to the eastern Jiangsu Province, home to many industrial companies, Zhang said quality control was strategically significant to maintaining economic growth, spurring domestic spending and promoting industrial restructuring.

It would also improve corporate management and sharpen the international competitiveness of products, he said.

Zhang encouraged enterprises to solve difficult technological problems by using innovation and state-of-the-art materials and facilities.

He also said leading international standards should apply in domestic production.
