Core Wireless Says Apple Owes $24M as IP Trial Kicks off

2016/12/08

Core Wireless Licensing SARL told a California federal jury during opening arguments that Apple Inc. owes up to $24 million for infringing two of its wireless network patents, saying its technology is what makes iPhones and iPads work "whenever, and wherever."
Core Wireless attorney Marc A. Fenster of Russ August & Kabat told the eight-member jury to beware of assertions Apple might make during trial that the technology described in Core Wireless’ patents are dated. The fact that the technology is being phased out is not a defense, he said.
The trial that kicked off on two of Core Wireless’ cellular network patents, which were originally owned by Nokia. The patents describe methods of streamlining two-way messaging, making data use more efficient and improving reception.
