Haidian Court: The Input with Search Is An Innovated Technology of Sogou Company

On 21 October, Haidian District People’s Court heard and delivered the first instance verdict over the unfair competition case between Baidu and Sogou.
The court approved the creativity and acknowledged the inevitable trend of the technology combination of input and search engine. However, considering the using habit, psychological anticipation and the similarity between Sogou input candidate words and Baidu search cue words, the court deemed that the user would be confused by the source of the search service. Therefore, Sogou has constituted unfair competition and should pay Baidu 500,000 RMB for compensation because of its inadequate search candidate settings.
