Cultural and creative industries account for 1 in 18 jobs in the UK. British film has an 11% share of global box office revenues and the UK has a 14% share of the global music market. British cultural and creative industries generate growth and have a strong international impact. How does the copyright system benefit culture and creative industries? Can it restrict access to works? Following an independent review by Professor Ian Hargreaves of the intellectual property system in 2011, the UK has overhauled its copyright regime to respond to the needs of digital technologies. Through its partnerships with the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) the UK also pays close attention to the third revision of the Chinese Copyright Law. This includes developments to the Chinese collective licensing system, with UK collecting societies considered world-leaders with mature operating practices. Join copyright, culture and creative industries experts from the UK and China at this interactive IP Salon. The event is hosted by the British Embassy Beijing with the support of the International Publishers Copyright Protection Coalition (IPCC). This event is free of charge. Advance registration is required.
