Piracy Rate of Taiwan Lower than Global Average

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) lately published 2008 Investigation Report on Global Piracy Rate. According to it, Chinese Taiwan area saw a decrease of software piracy rate to 39%, which drops for third consecutive year after the year 2006.

This data not only breaks the lowest record of Taiwan area in software piracy rate, and ranks the third among Asian countries and only after Japan (21%) and Singapore (36%), but is lower than the global average value for the first time.

However, the estimated economic loss caused by piracy will be up to 0.2 billion U.S. dollars. So piracy problem has great influence on local economy and deserves more attention.

Besides, worldwide piracy rates rose from 38 percent of software in business and home computers in 2007 to 41 percent in 2008 despite successes in fighting piracy, resulting in losses to companies estimated at 53 billion U.S. dollars, according to the study done by market researcher IDC for the BSA.
