The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has asked for public feedback on its plans to implement the Unified Patent Court (UPC) agreement.
Closing on September 2, the consultation allows people to submit their views on the drafting, structure and effect of proposed UK legislation, which will incorporate the EU’s UPC regulations.
The IPO has asked for evidence on the way the legislation will work in practice in order to provide guidance on its likely economic impact and to “assist with decisions on the details of proposed legislation”.
Once 13 member states, including the UK, France and Germany, formally ratify the UPC deal, the court can be implemented. Austria, Belgium, France and Sweden have approved it to date.
The UK government is aiming to publish a summary of responses within three months of the consultation closing. A statutory instrument will then be presented to Parliament.
