Global Trademark Professionals Hold First Asia Gathering Hong Kong Reception for 136th INTA Meeting

12May 2014 - The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) hosted a Hong Kong Welcome Reception with the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government and various IP-related organisationslast Saturday (10th May) to welcome the International Trademark Association (INTA) to Hong Kong for its first Annual Meeting in Asia. Well attended by more than 1,000 IP professionals and industry players around the globe, the Reception promoted Hong Kong’s advantages as Asia’s IP trading hub.


The reception’s officiating guests included Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director, HKTDC, Peter Cheung, Director, Intellectual Property Department, Hong Kong SAR Government and Mei-lan Stark, President, International Trademark Association.

 

“It is gratifying that you (INTA) have chosen Hong Kong for your first Asian Annual Meeting,” said Mr. Yip in his welcome remarks. “Your presence acknowledges the growing importance of Asia in driving global growth in the intellectual property business. It also underlines Hong Kong’s place in the region’s IP development.”

The HKTDC also promoted the Asia IP Exchange (AsiaIPEX) to reception participants.  Recently launched, AsiaIPEXalready has 23 strategic partners, featuring a portfolio of more than 25,000 tradable IP items, from trademarks, patents and copyrights to registered designs. More than 8,500 trademark and IP professionalsin Hong Kong

The INTA Annual Meeting will be held 10-14 May at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Expected are more than 8,500 attendees from over 140 countries The Annual Meeting will feature international trademark and intellectual property education sessions led by the acclaimed IP professionals, providing insights into protectingtrademarks and advancing brands.The program will feature a special focus on Asia - eight sessions centredon hot topics and substantive case law updates, preparing participants to do business in the region and beyond.


INTA was founded in 1878. Its members are more than 6,600 organisations from 190 countries, including trademark professionals and brand owners from major corporations as well as small- and medium-sized enterprises, law firms and nonprofit organisations. INTA members collectively contribute almost US$12 trillion to the global GDP annually.
