Some scientists and technologists in Fujian province who won national science and technology awards, or Chinese excellent patent awards, or provincial science and technology awards got additional prize money at a provincial awards ceremony, on Monday, with the highest awards amounting to 800,000 yuan ($132,000) each, Xinhuanet has reported.
Those top awards went to You Minsheng, head of the Agriculture Ministry's key subtropical agricultural biohazard lab and professor of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, and Xia Ningshao, director of Xiamen University's National Institute of Diagnostics and Vaccines Development in Infectious Diseases and dean of the university's Public Health School.
In 2013, 12 scientific and technological achievements were awarded the second prize of national science and technology awards, and 15 patents got Chinese excellent patent awards, as well as nine excellent appearance design awards. In addition, 197 prominent scientific developments and 43 patents won the Fujian province-level awards.
