Invention patent applications in Yinchuan, a city in Ningxia, hit 1,072 from January to October in 2013, with 5.24 filings per ten thousand residents, which surpassed the average level of 3.66 across the nation.
The number of invention patent is a crucial indicator reflecting innovative capacities in a region. In 2011, China has incorporated patent as one of indicators into the five-year outline on civil economic and social development for the first time, stipulating that by 2015, invention patents per ten thousand residents will reach 3.3 at average.
As of the end of October, Yinchuan has saw its patent applications record 1,757, accounting for 71% of the total of 2,479 in the region. Those on inventions increased from 353 in 2012 to 1,072, up 204%. Invention patents in force in the city amounted to 406 with those per ten thousand residents, increasing from 1.48 last year to 1.98 this year.
In a bid to promote the filings on inventions, local government has taken measures to reward enterprises submitting invention applications. Meanwhile, the cost generated in providing trusteeship services to enterprises will be paid by the government. Moreover, governmental departments offered assistance to potential enterprises who are ready to file their first-ever patent application.
