Zhejiang: Patent applications in Jiaxing hitting 16,907 in the first ten months

Jiaxing, a city in Zhejiang province, saw its patent applications reach 16,907 in the first ten months this year, increasing by 41.8%, in which applications on inventions recorded 2,239, growing by 92.9%. The growth rates of Pinghu, Haining and Tongxiang, three counties in the city, exceeded 100% respectively. Patent grants in the same period got up to 12,560, up 27.7%, in which grants on inventions amounted to 340.The growth rates of patent applications and filings on inventions in the city were 20.2% and 59.5%, higher than the average level in the province.


Those accomplishments achieved resulted from positive steps taken by the city, including allocating appropriate funds to support patent applications and grants, bringing into play the role of enterprises in promoting intellectual property rights, and establishing a monthly reporting system on patent registration.


In submitting patent applications, local enterprises played an increasingly important role, which was indicated by the fact that 12,078 patent applications and 9,072 grants by or to enterprises accounted for 71.4% and 72.2% of the total. Seven enterprises in the city were recognized as national intellectual property demonstration entities and another 48 companies were identified as municipal IP exemplary entities. Those IP pioneers were considered as a main contributor to the fast-paced economic upgrading in the city.
