Fifth Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting Registration Now Open

2009/03/05

Delegate registration for the Fifth Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy is now open.

All delegates planning to attend this important event must register through the website. A number of prominent government and business leaders, senior enforcement officials and leading experts in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy have already confirmed their attendance to address the Congress.

The website also offers additional information on the Provisional Agenda, speakers, hotel logistics, visa information, and a review and recommendations from previous Congresses.

The Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy is the pre-eminent global forum for shaping practical strategies to meet the shared challenges posed by the worldwide problem of counterfeiting and piracy.

This illegal activity threatens the health and safety of consumers, restricts economic development, reduces government revenues, and hurts businesses and brand reputations.

The Congress, a unique public-private partnership, organizes this annual event and other activities to enhance international coordination and cooperation and to seek more effective solutions to combat counterfeiting and piracy.

The Global Congress partners are the World Customs Organization, INTERPOL, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Chamber of Commerce Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy initiative (ICC-BASCAP), the International Trademark Association and the International Security Managers Association.

The Fifth Global Congress will build on the successes of the first four Global Congresses (Brussels-2004, Lyon-2005, Geneva-2007, Dubai-2008).

The Congress now moves to the Western Hemisphere with support from the Mexican government.

It will address the threats posed in the current economic crisis and be focused on developing tangible solutions to the current challenges in fighting counterfeiting and piracy globally. Panels will also feature the increasing problems in Mexico, Central and South America.

Government ministers and policy-makers, business leaders, senior law enforcement officials, judges, stakeholders from non-governmental organizations and industry groups are invited to participate.

The Congress will be structured to allow for maximum interaction and dialogue among the more than 1000 participants expected to register. Space is limited, so register early.
