Guangdong: Man sentenced for pirated software

A man in Guangdong province was sentenced to eight months in jail with a one-year reprieve for selling pirated navigation software online. He was also fined 5,000 yuan ($820). In June 2012, the man, surnamed Liu, set up a store at taobao.com and started selling pirated software. From September 2012 to late March, Liu sold 599 pirated copies of the Careland Navigation software in the store and earned 4,607 yuan. A court in Yangchun, Guangdong province, found Liu guilty of copyright infringement.
