Honeywell Licenses Patent-Protected Multimedia

2009/02/19

Honeywell announced in a press release that it has granted Kenwood Corporation and Kenwood USA Corporation rights under patented technology for automotive multimedia and Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices.

The agreement provides rights to Kenwood under Honeywell’s GPS technology, protected by numerous US patents relating to mobile navigation technology.

“Honeywell is a leader in the area of enhancing GPS technology to improve safety and operator awareness in numerous systems for all kinds of vehicles, including ground-based vehicles,” Honeywell Intellectual Property International Vice President and General Manager Loria Yeadon said.

Honeywell recently filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission against four consumer electronics companies for infringing a portfolio of multimedia and GPS navigation patents, and the Commission is conducting an investigation.

Kenwood will be released from the matter. The action against the remaining three non-licensees is continuing.

Honeywell International is a $37 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials.
