Avistar Receives US Patent for Text and Video Instant Message

Avistar Communications Corporation, a leader in unified visual communications solutions, announced in a press release the grant of its 97th patent.

 

Issued February 3, 2009, US Patent Number 7,487,210 relates to instant message (IM) systems supporting both text IM and video IM over the Internet. The new US patent additionally involves logging in from an arbitrary communication device and providing popular IM buddy list features.

 

Since September 2008, the company has received 14 patents, adding valuable coverage involving text IM, VoIP, desktop video conferencing. These patents add to Avistar’s significant patents covering key aspects of  real-time communications including wireless, mobile devices, buddy list directories, VoIP, video, and communications servers used to provide these services.
