In 2012, Wuhan in Hubei province was named one of the first national intellectual property demonstration cities. A total of 17 Chinese Well-known Trademarks were newly added in the city, increasing by 143% on a year-on-year basis with the growth rate ranking the second among capital cities in central China. As of now, the city has held 41 Chinese Well-known Trademarks, 9 trademarks on geographical indications, 303 Hubei Famous Trademarks and 711 Wuhan Notable Trademarks.
In a bid to enhance the trademark protection, last year, Wuhan investigated 926 cases on fake commodities valued at more than 9 million yuan, in which 637 were on trademark violations involving over 5.28 million yuan.
This year, the city will continue to reinforce the enforcement on intellectual property rights. The municipal administration for industry and commerce and local quality inspection authority set up a green path for the public to report complaints on counterfeits. The city’s long-effective mechanisms on trademark supervision and enforcement will be further improved. Moreover, governmental departments will set up regular coordination mechanism with 83 renowned local enterprises.
