Xiamen convened its annual IP conference on December 21st. About 20 representatives from local governmental departments including the intellectual property office, the administration for industry and commerce, the copyright office, the public security office, and the court participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, Xu Wendong, deputy secretary general of the government, inaugurated six working stations of China (Xiamen) Intellectual Property Aid Center. Participants discussed on achievements and existing problems on IPR in the city in 2012 and talked about working plans for 2013. The Municipal Intellectual Property Office also issued Several Opinions on Strengthening Patent Administrative Enforcement and Protection Aid Service.
As of October 31st, invention patents in force in Xiamen reached 2,528, up 46.13%, accounting for 34.54% of the total in the city. Every ten thousand residents held seven invention patents on average. International patent applications filed under PCT in the city hit 116, accounting for 56.04% of the total in the province.
During the period, a total of 15 trademarks of 10 Taiwan-based enterprises were recognized in the city, which also had its first-ever geographical indication registered in the meantime.
The city also took measures in promoting the creation and utilization of intellectual properties. From October 2011 to September 2012, Xiamen had allocated 10,351,400 yuan (10.35 million) in subsidizing 5,578 patent applications.
This November, three patents in the city won China Patent Awards in its 14th session.
