Yunnan released measures on enhancing intellectual property protection in new emerging industries

2012/12/26

In a bid to study and implement the spirit and guiding principle of the State Council on strengthening intellectual property protection in new emerging industries, Yunnan has recently launched the Implementation Opinions on Enhancing Intellectual Property Protection in New Emerging Industries in Yunnan.

The Opinions urge relevant departments to fully realize the important role intellectual property protection plays in promoting new emerging industries, and state clear about the general idea and main tasks.

By 2015, the province is expected to see a significant growth in invention patent applications and trademark registrations in those industries. Intellectual property demonstration enterprises are anticipated to reach over 30. By 2020, those industries should lead the way in commercializing and industrializing intellectual properties.

The Opinions require relevant departments to be fully functional in promoting innovation and creations, fostering talents, creating favorable development environment, and reinforcing departmental coordination. Moreover, intellectual property protection should be incorporated into the working agenda of local governments to ensure an effective and smooth implementation of relevant policies.

The Opinions have been jointly made by ten departments in Yunnan, including the Intellectual Property Office, the Development and Reform Commission, the Education Department, the Science and Technology Department,  the Industry and Information Technology Commission, the Finance Department, the Department of Commerce, the Administration for Industry and Commerce, the Copyright Office, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Kunming Branch.
