From January to October, the patent applications in Chongqing reached 22,308 pieces, up by 4.2%; granted patents were 16,950, up 33.5%. Today, the invention patents for every ten thousand people increased to 2.2 pieces from 1.65 pieces in the end of the year 2011, ranking the ninth in the nation.

Among the applications and grants, applications for invention patents were 6,489 pieces, up 14.8% and grants were 2,006, increasing by 34%, indicating the rapid growth of invention patents.

According to statistics, patent applications by enterprises were 9,722 pieces with a rise of 11.7% and patent grants of enterprises were 8,103 with an increase of 30.5%, showing the rise of enterprise patents.

"This mainly results from Chongqing’s exploration and innovation in promoting economic development by patents", said a principal from Chongqing Municipal Intellectual Property Office. For example, Chongqing worked out patent programs and carry out IP appraisal projects regarding key economic activities, which boosted the comprehensive IP strength of Chongqing.

"From now on, IP work will provide more support for industrial development of Chongqing,"revealed the principal.
