In the first half of 2012, Qingdao saw its invention patent applications and grants reach 2,627 and 721, up 52.2% and 32.4%, most of which were held by Laoshan District with 787 applications and 271 grants. Additionally, the city filed 78 patent applications under PCT in this period.
Although the city fares well in this regard, there is still much room to be improved. In terms of invention patent applications and grants, the city ranks the 9th and the 12th among all the 15 vice-provincial cities in Shandong.
Last year, a total of 5,319 invention applications and 1,135 grants were held by the city, up 86.6% and 48.4%. Applications filed under PCT amounted to 150.
