A celebration to mark the five-year cooperation between China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and Cardozo Law School of the Unites States, which was also the commencement ceremony of 2011, was held in Beijing on July 4.
When addressing the event, SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu applauded the successful partnership during the past five years with Cardozo Law School and expressed his appreciation for the latter's contributions to China's talent cultivation program in IP sector. As one of the world's most newly-established and fast-growing IP offices, SIPO has been attaching great importance to personnel training and expertise enhancement and has therefore established a wide range of cooperation with many universities and training institutes across the world, he pointed out.
"Training and retaining high-caliber people is a core procedure in implementing the national IPR strategy," emphasized by Tian. "Given the challenges ahead, China is still in need of more high-level IP talents," which cannot be realized without the support of foreign educational institutes including Cardozo. He hoped that the two parties could extend the current cooperation and generate more achievements.
Tian also congratulated the graduates on their commencement and encouraged them to apply their knowledge to practical problem solving.
Dean of Cardozo Law School Matthew Diller said in his speech that this commencement ceremony was of great significance as a milestone to witness the bilateral partnership and friendship, and this partnership, via more in-depth communication and understanding, would play an important role in the development of SIPO, Cardozo and even the global IP scenario.
So far, as many as 55 people have been sent by SIPO to Cardozo Law School in the United States for mid or long term training, five of whom have been granted Master's Degree in law; meanwhile, another 92 selected nationwide have been benefited from Cardozo’s short-term training program.
Tian had also met with Matthew Diller in the sidelines of the event, where the two parties reviewed the history of their cooperation and had a friendly discussion on talent cultivation, among others.
