A delegation led by the State Intellectual Property Office Commissioner Tian Lipu attended the fifth conference for directors of intellectual property offices in China, the United Stated, the European Union, Japan and Korea in Corsica, France, on June 6.
EPO President Benoît Battistelli hosted the meeting, which was also joined by Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO.
At the meeting, after listening to the report on the accomplishments and latest progress of ten basic cooperation projects among these five offices over the past year, those directors discussed on hot issues including patent classification, amelioration of PCT, patent timeliness and quality.
Tian proposed a cloud technology-based solution on promoting the work results sharing among those five offices. The proposal fully considers capitalizing on fruits of the above-mentioned cooperation projects to grant patent examiners easy access to the review results of each office, which could eventually increase their working efficiency; furthermore, since the examiners don’t have to switch to a new review mode, the review cost and workload will not increase.
The other four offices showed great interest and appreciated the solution for its pragmatic approaches.
On the sidelines of the meeting, organizations and representatives from industries of diverse nations and regions exchanged ideas and insights face to face on concerned patent-related issues. The Patent Protection Association of China, joined by corporate delegators from Huawei, ZTE, Datang Telecom and ZPMC attended the discussion.
