IP Practitioners Back Community Patent

An overwhelming 82% of IP practitioners favour the rapid implementation of a European Community patent.In an electronic poll conducted at this month’s IP Summit, organised by Premier.

 

Cercle in Brussels on December 4 and 5, just 18% of the 600 delegates said they did not favour rapid implementation. Asked what they would most expect from the Community patent, 60% said it would reduce costs, 26% said enhance quality and 14% said trim delays.Discussions on introducing a single EU Community patent have intensified in recent years, with member states discussing draft proposals. But so far agreement has been elusive, with division over issues such as language and fee distribution.

 

Participants in the IP Summit voted anonymously using remote keypads during the Summit, which featured presentations from members of the European Commission, IP office heads, industry leaders and French economics minister Christine Lagarde.
