In a bid to further enhance intellectual property rights protection and preserve a fair and orderly market environment, Shanghai prosecutorates have collectively lodged 19 cases of IP violations and manufacture and sales of shoddy commodities, involving 27 law breakers and 23.18 million yuan.
Those alleged cases feature similar charges of fakery with high case value. 13 suspects are accused of making and selling commodities with fake trademarks, taking up 68.4% of the total, while cases involving two or more violators account for 26.3%. Moreover, five cases, with each involving more than one million yuan, take up 26.2%.
In addition, the distribution channels found in those alleged cases are of infinite variety. Private residences and cellars are rented to store illegal products which are sold via physical entities or online shops. Five out of those 13 cases charged for making and selling commodities with fake trademarks use online platforms including taobao.com to peddle spurious products, taking up 38.46% of the total. For instance, someone surnamed Chen used a private residence as a warehouse to store fake Amway products which were sold via taobao online shops registered by Chen. On November 8, 2011, local security organs detained Chen for selling those substandard healthcare products valued at over six million yuan.
Not only fake bags, footwear, apparel, watches, cigarettes, wine and audiovisual copies, but also fake car accessories, lubricant, drugs, healthcare products and jewelry are found in those cases. For example, someone surnamed Liu have gained about 100 thousand yuan for selling fake VOLKSWAGEN car accessories as of the police captured him.
