2012/05/28

Nanning Customs destroyed 390,000 pieces of counterfeit and shoddy goods infringing intellectual property rights in a plastic product company in Qinzhou, including such international brands as LV, Chanel and Apple.

A mountain of fake brands piled in Qinzhou Hua Xin Plastic Production Co., Ltd. were to be destroyed as junks, including LV bags and wallets, Nokia and Apple cellphones, Honda accessories and CK clothing.

As introduced by an official from Nanjing Customs, the goods infringing LV, Gucci, Nokia, Honda, Apple and other brands totaled 390,000 pieces valued at 970,000 yuan, including bags, eye glasses, leather belts, cellphones and accessories and garment accessories. The involved goods were seized in 101 cases uncovered in the special rectification action launched last year. The action focused on key production sites, ports and goods. Most counterfeit goods, which were mostly intended to be mailed abroad and partly imported home, were found in Dongxing Port, Pingxiang Port and Nanning Customs' branches at post office.

The destruction is conducted under the unified deployment of the General Administration of Customs, reflecting the strength and efficiency of IPR customs protection.

When travelers take IPR infringing products exceeding reasonable quantities for personal use through customs, they are liable for violation of laws. For example, if you take more than three LV bags or ten or more cellphones through customs, customs officials will go through trademark recordation system and confirm it with trademark holders. IPR infringing products will be confiscated and violators will be fined according to the price of those goods if sold as genuine products.

The import and export of counterfeit goods have a direct bearing on consumers' health and safety. Such actions have great harmfulness to public society, are easy to be noticed by foreign media and influence foreign trade order. Director of Nanning Customs reminded units and individuals to abide by national laws, respect intellectual property rights, refuse to smuggle and use infringing goods and products so as to maintain a sound import and export order.

The plastic production company mentioned above in Qinzhou is one of the only two nationally identified factories in Guangxi Coastal Area which are capable of reprocessing plastic and metal waste. The other one is in Dongxing.
