Jiangxi: Jingdezhen stresses on IP protection in ceramic industry

2012/05/18

480 ceramic objects stealing famous potters' ideas, 6.3 million copies of fake commercial invoices and other spurious items including cigarettes, wine, beverage and food, were collectively destroyed by Jingdezhen Public Security Organ in a publicity campaign themed "Combat Economic Crimes and Protect IPR of Pottery" on May 15.

The value of the forged pottery items ruined in the event is said to reach 200 million yuan.

Wang Xiliang, a fine craftsman, told the reporter that art works should be created and innovated by heart and soul. The counterfeiting works produced by copycats would severely tarnish the reputation of Jingdezhen which is famous for its pottery home and abroad.

Another famous artist Xiong Gangru welcomed the campaign and said that the event could not only help to preserve the rights of artists and consumers, but also maintain the fame of the pottery town. Jingdezhen has been known for its fabulous ceramics for thousands of years. No one is allowed to undermine its reputation by maliciously stealing the intellectual property rights in ceramic industry.

Talking about those 17 bogus pottery items that imitate his art style, Lai Dequan, a well-known ceramic artist in China, said that art works have rich contents and are inspired by valuable life experiences while fake items are often characterized by rigid streaks and stiff colors. He also applauded the efforts made by local authorities to defend artists' rights and deter IP crimes.
