Guangdong Provincial Government has recently issued the Opinions on the Implementation of Trademark and Brand Strategy (hereinafter referred to as "the Opinions"), providing that Guangdong will initially develop a structure to implement a trademark and brand strategy that aims to promote the cultivation of indigenous brands. The Opinions emphasized to guide and support enterprises to exploit the economic value of their trademarks by making full use of the marks in financial contribution offering, collateralization, merger & acquisition, licensing and transfer, while also clearly stated that the Province would start to explore on trademark-collateralized loans.
Besides, the document set concrete goals, such as the province's valid trademark registration to hit one million by 2015, international registration to surge significantly, Chinese Well-known trademarks to amount to 500, a batch of business, regional brands and geographic indications to come out with market competitiveness and global influence. It also expected a great increase in the sales volume of enterprises bearing famous trademarks, a breakthrough development of trademarks and brands in agriculture and service industry and an increasingly appropriate GI brands layout by the year of 2015.
To secure the smooth implementation of the Opinions, Guangdong Provincial General Office has urged relevant departments to strengthen the guidance in the implementation of the trademark and brand strategy by setting up a leading and coordinating mechanism and incorporating industrial associations and agencies in the campaign. It also calls for a reinforced financial investment, exploration on trade-collateralized loans and promulgation on trademark knowledge.
