Shandong: Customs strengthened IP protection in passenger check-in process

2012/05/08

Customs based at Qingdao Liuting international airport cracked 54 IP cases in passenger check-in process in Q1 this year, accounting for 91.5% of such cases in Shandong province.

Those cases reportedly involved a total of 1100 watches, apparel and bags bearing world famous trademarks such as GUCCI, CARTIER, OMEGA and FERRAGAMO.

Due to the wide range of checking targets, the Customs faces difficulties in protecting IP rights. In response to this, it has adopted various measures to combat violations and defend rights. For example, it has attached much importance to exporting commodities including watches, apparel and jewelry and punished those illegal enterprises and individuals seriously.

On the other hand, the Customs has also proactively undertaken trainings and disseminations on IP protection policies and ways to identify counterfeit products in several kinds of languages including English, Korean, Japanese and Russian.

The Customs also reminds the public to increase their IP awareness, purchase commodities via trustworthy channels and demand for commercial invoices.
