Guangxi redoubles efforts in combating IPR violation

Guangxi Copyright Bureau disclosed in a press release that the autonomous region redoubled efforts in fighting against IPR violation and made notable achievements.

During the special campaign against IPR infringement and the manufacture and distribution of shoddy commodities in 2011, Guangxi launched 3,535 special enforcement actions, deployed 21, 055 person-times of inspectors, destroyed 30 shelters and seized over 2,670,000 pieces of illegal products, valuing at 25,800,000 yuan. Besides, the autonomous region handled 200 or more cases, recorded 85 cases, gave administrative penalties to 172 cases, transferred 6 to judicial organs and arrested 11 offenders.

In the Special Campaign, Guangxi Copyright Bureau reinforced supervision over printing and duplication enterprises and markets of books, software, AV products, publications, cell phones and computers. The bureau also actively inspected enterprises’ portals and enhanced inspection on websites. The organ educated the public and fostered the social awareness of curbing piracy and supporting legal copies by exhibiting campaign achievements.

Meanwhile, Guangxi enhanced the promotion of software legalization. This year, Guangxi Copyright Bureau will particularly encourage the fifth batch of enterprises inclusive of publications businesses, exploration and design companies and three-star hotels and above to use legal software. During the period from 2007 to 2011, 468 enterprises in Guangxi basically came to use authorized software, which was confirmed by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO).
