On April 13, an intellectual property workstation was set up at Yangchenghu industrial park by Suzhou Municipal Intellectual Property Office to operate as a pivotal hub of the Office and local enterprises.
"The workstation is an exploratory project which is designated to provide a wide range of services such as law consultation and dissemination as well as basic trainings and copyright registration," said Zhang Mei, deputy director of the authority. "The establishment of the workstation also helps sorting out the problem of absence of sound copyright infrastructures for rapidly increased copyright needs."
Suzhou tops its peers in Jiangsu province, even across the whole country in copyright development. For example, in May, 2010, it was recognized as the only copyright demonstration city in the province; in the beginning of 2011, it became the first prefecture-level city which was identified as a national copyright exemplary city.
A head of a software company in the park indicated that software industry often suffers from piracy. He believed that the copyright workstation will significantly help promoting the protection of legitimate software.
Since the industrial park was considered as a national digital publishing base in August 2011, over 20 entities have joined in the park and another 30 businesses including Nanjing Normal University Press intend to become its members.
