On April 10, Wang Ziqiang, Head of the Regulation Department under the General Administration of Press and Publication, noted that the National Copyright Administration (NCAC) publicized the revision draft of Copyright Law to earnestly solicit for public opinions, particularly objects when he participated in the symposium held by Images Copyright Society of China (ICSC) on the revision of Copyright Law. Wang said that before April 30, NCAC will interact with the public on the amendment of Copyright Law via relevant media.
Wang Ziqiang said the promulgation and implementation of laws touch upon the interests of various groups and it is normal that different groups have different perceptions. There should be proper communication and feedback channels for these views. One of the basic ideas on the third revision of Copyright Law set by NCAC is to fully solicit for the opinions of the public, increase the transparency and expect to solve the serious problems existing in copyright industry.
The participating photography and art celebrities said they were pleased to see that right holders’ suggestions were all included in the revision draft of Copyright Law on prolonging the protection period of photographic works, revising Article 43 of Copyright Law and adding right of renewal of visual art works into the law. They believed that the revision draft was in line with China’s actual situation and could satisfy right holders. And the protection level of photography and art works is greatly raised. The participants also proposed proposals on some articles in the draft. [Chinese version is available on chinaxwcb.com]
