In an attempt to promote the development of the Pingtan Daffodils industry, Pingtan Daffodil Association has submitted the certification trademark application of geographical indication for its daffodils to the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, a report of the association said on April 7.
An official from local administration for industry and commerce said that the application is expected to be approved by the first half of the year.
The general secretary of the association Feng Liqiang introduced that as a kind of ornamental daffodils and famed for the pleasant flavor, Pingtan Daffodils have been known to every household since the time of Qianlong in Qing dynasty about three hundred years ago. In 1989, the authorities chose Pingtan as the production base of the daffodils and in 2007, the daffodils began to be protected as geographical indication products.
"In recent years, the planting areas of the daffodils have narrowed down. In a bid to prop up the daffodils industry, Pingtan government deployed 50,000 yuan for the mark application last year," said Feng. "The reputation and added value of the daffodil will be greatly increased once the application is approved." [Chinese version is available on aweb.com.cn]
