A report said Friday indiscernible quality and counterfeiting has long plagued China's paint industry and the public is weary of every product in the market.
Big names in the sector including Nippon Paint and Dulux were both recently found by watchdogs with quality problems, the Securities Daily reported.
Quality checks by local authorities in Inner Mongolia recently also revealed quality problems with products of Dulux and Carpoly, said the Beijing-based newspaper.
Fake paint was even found to be sold in the specialty shops of Nippon Paint's products.
Meanwhile, fake products using the names of big brands were found produced and sold in the market, the report said.
"Counterfeiting is an old problem in the nation's paint industry," said Bian Yupeng, an industrial analyst with SCI, a provider of industrial information of the China market.
"The higher cost and low demand has become one of the reasons to counterfeiting in the sector," the report quoted Bian as saying.
