On March 28, Vice Director of General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) and Deputy Director of National Copyright Administration Yan Xiaohong and Member of Standing Committee of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Head of Beijing Municipal Publicity Department and Vice Mayor of Beijing City Lu Wei met with WIPO Deputy Director General Wang Binying and her party. The two sides exchanged ideas on the preparation of the Diplomatic Conference on Protecting Audiovisual Performances (hereinafter referred to as Diplomatic Conference) to be held in Beijing City this June. Yan Xiaohong noted that with the guidance of WIPO, Chinese People’s Government will well prepare for the conference to ensure its success.
Yan Xiaohong firstly thanked WIPO for its guidance and assistance and briefed the preparation work to the delegation. Yan said as the organizer of the Diplomatic Conference, the National Copyright Administration of China mainly cared about how to set up conference agenda and supporting activities. Yan Xiaohong expected to cooperate with relevant sectors of WIPO and welcomed WIPO’s constructive suggestions on the preparation work. He said the organization work was also a challenge for Chinese team and he thought with the efforts of the two sides, the forthcoming diplomatic conference must be satisfactory.
Lu Wei also welcomed Wang Binying and her party. Lu said Beijing Municipal People’s Government paid much attention to the organization work of the diplomatic conference and will spare no effort to do what Beijing should do. Besides, Beijing will take the opportunity of organizing the diplomatic conference to enhance IP protection, particularly protecting the intellectual property rights of foreign cultural products in Chinese market.
Wang Binying was satisfied with the preparation work done by China and said WIPO member states all expected the coming historical diplomatic conference. She also disclosed that WIPO had gave the highest importance to the conference. WIPO will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with China.
Officials attending the meeting also included Director of the Copyright Management Department under the National Copyright Administration Ci Ke and Vice Director Tang Zhaozhi, Director of Beijing Municipal Press and Publication (Copyright) Bureau Feng Junke and Vice Director Wang Yefei, WIPO Copyright Development and Service Department Director and Conference and Language Department Director.
