Imphal: Sensitisation program on IPR held

Imphal, March 22 2012: A one-day sensitisation programme on intellectual property rights (IPR) related to handloom and handicraft today at Classic Hotel.

The programme was jointly organised by MSME-Development Institute, Department of Commerce and Industries, Intellectual Property Felicitation Centre-MASTEC, and All Manipur Entrepreneurs Association.

The sensitisation programme was graced by LP Gonmei, Principal Secretary (Sc & Tech), O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) as the chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking as the chief guest, LP Gonmei said that produces of local entrepreneurs and enterprises need to be registered under IPR so that they hold the design and copyrights.

He also stressed on the need to register every product with Geographical Indication while also adding that the entrepreneurs used their own trademarks.

O Nabakishore elaborated on the need for patent registering of products by entrepreneurs.

The programme was also attended by S Rishikumar, President AMEA, Th Surendranath, Director, Manipur Science and Technology Council, and Th Baite, Deputy Director MSME-DI as the guests of honour.
