Taobao handled 63.2 mln pieces of infringing information on its website

In 2011, Taobao removed a total of 63.2 million pieces of infringing information from its website and punished its members violating the marketing regulations for over 700,000 person-times.

As many as 8.7 million pieces of infringing information deleted by Taobao were reported by users and up to 54 million pieces were found by the internet service provider who bought stuff anonymously from the buyers to verify the authenticity. 

In the first quarter of 2011, Taobao conducted a special campaign combating counterfeit and infringing commodities, in which, about 2,500 pieces of information wrongfully describing items on sale were completely erased.

Taobao has been attaching great importance to intellectual property protection since its foundation. Last year, more than 2,000 professionals responsible for handling IP infringement in the company were divided into three groups to deal with IP issues ranging from IP cooperation, trademark promotion and IP protection. [Chinese version is available on bbtnews.com.cn]
