Wuhan owns 7.4 patents per ten thousand people

As of the end of 2011, valid invention patents per ten thousand people in Wuhan reached 7.4, two more than that of 2010 with 5.4 and ranking 5th among 15 cities under separate state planning and sub-provincial cities.

The top four cities are Shenzhen with 39.1, Hangzhou with 15.2, Nanjing with 12.7 and Xi'an with 8.3.

In 2011, valid invention patents in Wuhan reached 7,426. Industrial and mining establishments, universities and colleges, R&D institutions, governmental or non-governmental organizations and individuals registered 2,687, 3,523, 602, 35 and 579 valid invention patents, accounting for 36.2%, 47.4%, 8.1%, 0.5% and 7.8% of the total respectively. Enterprises and universities and colleges played a leading role in this regard.
