In 2011, patent applications and grants in Hangzhou amounted to 40,892 and 29,251, ranking the first among all capital cities in China, according to the official data from Hangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau.
In the amended Hangzhou Science and Technology Progress Ordinance promulgated on March 1, 2012, talents dedicated to science and technology researches are considered to be the most precious workforce.
Favorable monetary policies also provide strong impetus to patent applications, said an official from the Bureau. Technicians and researchers successfully creating innovations and obtaining patents will be awarded with a flexible amount of shareholding or a certain proportion of revenues generated from their technological achievements.
