Li Changchun, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, went to the National Agricultural Exhibition Center on February 14 to visit an achievement exhibition on China's achievements regarding the productive protection of intangible cultural heritages (ICH).
After hearing the working report on the productive protection and enjoying the demonstrative show of inheritors' exquisite craftsmanship, Li pointed out that traditional culture, embodying the hardworking spirit of the Chinese people and time-honored wealth of the mind, helps to lay a solid foundation for our current social culture. He urged relevant authorities to strengthen ICH protection so as to promote traditional culture and meet the spiritual demands of Chinese people.
ICH productive protection is not only a cultural project, but also a moral policy that reflects the notion of serving the people, Li emphasized. To protect ICH, we should comply with relevant laws and regulations, carefully preserve and reasonably utilize those valuable resources, while formulating incentive policies to encourage the efforts therein. We can exploit eligible ICHs for tourism development and make the old heritages revitalize in an appropriate approach, which is also the most positive, effective and healthy way to preserve and inherit those traditional wealth, said Li. In the end, he called for taking the opportunity of certain festivals and anniversaries, such as China's Cultural Heritage Day, to carry out activities or exhibitions to promulgate ICH knowledge, educate the public in ICH protection and create a healthy environment in this regard.
The exhibition was also attended by Liu Yunshan, Zhang Dejiang, Hua Jianmin, Meng Jianzhu, Zhang Rongming, Lin Wenyi and Wang Zhizhen.
Organized by central departments including the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition is designed into themed divisions which demonstrate the marvelous achievements secured in ICH productive protection. Since its opening on February 5, the show has aroused nearly 150,000 visitors.
