Nanjing: 12.7 living invention patents among every ten thousand people

In 2011, patent filings and grants in Nanjing, a city in Jiangsu Province, hit 28,043 and 12,404, up 45.5% and 35.6% respectively, showed by the latest statistics. Its living patents for invention recorded 10,198 last year, up 38.9%, while the living invention patents among every 10,000 people amounted to 12.7, also said the data. 

Of the total 28,043 patent applications filed in 2011, those for invention, utility model and design were 11,597, 8,164 and 8,288, respectively growing by 55.4%, 44.6% and 34.4%.

In terms of patent grants, those for invention patents were 3,452 in the city, up 38.8%, taking up 31.3% in the province's gross amount. Enterprises, with 12,173 patents applications being filed, increasing by 71.3% and accounting for 43.4% of the city's total volume, have contributed significantly therein and played a vital supportive role in promoting the development of high-tech industries.

Nanjing promulgated a series of policies and regulations to promote intellectual property rights (IPR) in 2011, inclusive of the Regulations on IPR Promotion and Protection in Nanjing, the Opinions on the Implementation of IPR Strategic Outlines of Nanjing as well as the Plans on Indigenous IPR Development. [Chinese version is available on SIPO.gov.cn]
