The national IP statistical data shows that in 2011, patent applications filed by Henan Province reached 34,076, outnumbering 30,000 for the first time and rising by 35.5% compared with the same period of the previous year. Thus, the accumulated patent applications hit 184,442 pieces.

Among the three types of patent applications, applications for invention patents, utility model patent and design patents were 8,833, 19,120 and 6,123, increasing by 37.8%, 38% and 25.3%, respectively; service applications and non-service applications were 22,921 and 111,55, rising by 46.7% and 17.1%; patent applications filed by colleges and universities and enterprises were 2,228 and 19,402, jumping by 60.6% and 44.3%. Meanwhile, in the year 2011, patent grants were 19,259, growing by 16.4%, the accumulated number of patent grants was 100,988, surpassing 100,000 for the first time. Among the patent grants, invention patents were 2,462 with a rise of 64.4%, utility model patents were 13,032 with a rise of 18% and design patents were 3,765 with a decrease of 5.7%.

On the whole, both the annual patent applications and grants maintained good growth momentum.
