Wuhan: Patent applications surpassing 20,000

Patent applications in Wuhan city reached 21,880 in 2011 and ranked the 8th nationwide among cites at similar level, up 45.4% over 2010 and realizing a great leap forward during the period of the "12th Five-Year Plan", according to the latest statistics released by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO).

Invention patent applications with stable legal state recorded 6,362, with 2,585 being granted. Patent applications made by enterprises reached 11,986, up 56% over 2010 and accounting for 54.8% of the total applications.

The results achieved are attributed to a series of measures taken by Wuhan authorities, including incentive policies, intellectual property trusteeship and cultivation of enterprises with IP advantages. All efforts further enhance the working capacity of Wuhan in terms of intellectual property.
