National Copyright Administration officials are making new standards to raise pay rates for writers, according to China Written Works Copyright Society.
The current standard adopted in 1999 sets the price for 1,000 words in a range from 3 yuan ($0.47) to 100 yuan, which is "disconnected" from the economic realities of today, writers said.
The officials noted the payment standard is just a reference as writers must negotiate the price with publishers themselves.
