From January to November 2011, Panzhihua city of Sichuan province had filed 1,044 patent applications, surpassing 2010 with 811 ones. Panzhihua is the fourth city filing more than 1,000 patent applications, following Chengdu, Mianyang and Deyang.
By taking the chance of establishing a national IPR pilot city, Panzhihua integrates scientific and technical innovation resources to develop the iron and steel industry and machine manufacturing industry. Among 1,044 patent applications, there 333 invention patent applications with 127 being granted, accounting for 32% of total applications and 17% of total grants respectively.
Universities and colleges filed 270 invention patent applications, accounting for 26% of the total applications. Universities and colleges have become vital force providing technical support for enterprises and industries.
