On November 24th and 25th, an inspection team led by deputy commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) He Hua visited Zhengzhou, capital city of Henan province, to examine if the city was ready to establish a patent review coordination center administered by the SIPO.
On the afternoon of November 24th, the inspection team reviewed the alternative places and their surrounding environment of the coordination center.
On the morning of November 25th, the inspection team convened a meeting to hear reports on preparation process of establishing a coordination center.
Zhengzhou has a solid IP foundation for the program. For instance, in 2010 alone, the city received 8,203 patent applications, achieving an average growth rate of 38.7% annually, while applications on inventions reached 2,455, achieving an average growth rate of 57% annually. In addition, patent grants amounted to 5,677, up 71.4%. Zhengzhou was also identified as a national IP demonstration city due to its accomplishment. Besides, the city also has advantages in geographic position, talents and industries.
Patent review coordination centers are directly led by the SIPO and currently, such centers have already been established in Beijing, Jiangsu and Guangdong.
