Beijing to fight against software piracy

2011/11/21

This November, the industrial and commercial administrations in Beijing continued to develop a series of enforcement actions to ensure IP protection, fair competition and consumers’ rights and interests.

On November 16, the industrial and commercial sections deployed over ten enforcers to investigate busy electronic product malls in Haidian District. During the action, officials seized those computers found being installed with pirated software. Meanwhile, enforcers strictly checked those illegal actions infringing IP and consumers’ rights and interests, particularly combating the sale of pirated computer software. Such irregular investigation played a positive role in boosting the legalization of software.

To seek sudden huge profits, some distributors turned blind eyes to laws and regulations. They still sold counterfeits and pirated software though they knew pirated software infringed IP and carried virus and tramp software. The enforcers called on consumers to support legal products and say no to piracy and counterfeits.

In recent years, Chinese government has reinforced IPR protection. During the past Special Campaign, Premiere Wen Jiabao made requirements on supervision and enforcement to enhance IP protection; the public security sections actively launched “Sword Show” special campaign to especially combat IP infringement. The industrial and commercial administrations in Beijing also reinforced enforcement to actually protect IP and safeguard fair competition and consumers’ rights and interests.
