Patent applications in Chongqing up 50% in the first six months

In the first half of 2011, patent applications and grants in Chongqing reached 10,720 and 7,479, up 50% and 60% respectively, making a historic breakthrough in this regard.

Of all the applications, invention applications amounted to 2,710, up 51.4%. Enterprises contributed a major part of these invention applications, revealing that they have attached more and more importance to the cultivation of core competitiveness.

Yuan Jie, commissioner of the municipal intellectual property office said that patent has already become the necessary factor in evaluating the feasibility of the establishment of enterprises' technology centers, major laboratories in universities and research centers. Besides, it is also a mandatory factor in identifying high-tech enterprises and products.

Meanwhile, patent also plays an important role in assessing and accepting key scientific and technological projects. The city also vows to promote patent commercialization and capitalization. [Chinese version is available on cq.gov.cn]
