158,400 bottles of fake Maotai wine destroyed

With an increase of Maotai (wine) brand infringement and intellectual property theft , the public security organs in Guizhou province took a crackdown on such violations by joining hands with related departments from other provinces and cities. 158,400 bottles of seized fake Maotai wine have been destroyed this year.

Guizhou, joining with other nine provinces and cities, filed 343 cases related with the production and sales of counterfeit Maotai and uncovered 334 of them. 265 criminals among 595 suspects were arrested and 121 were sent to court. 158,400 bottles of fake Maotai wine, 11,750,800 packages and 176 sets of production equipment totally valued at 189 million yuan were confiscated.

Zhao Xiang, deputy director of Guizhou Provincial Public Security Bureau, said Guizhou had signed an agreement on combating Maotai brand infringement and intellectual property theft with its joint forces, which posed a threat to criminals and effectively curbed crimes.
