Zhejiang: Industrial and commercial policies improve band protection

2011/09/01

"For documents to be submitted to Beijing, Zhejiang Province can take charge on behalf of applicants; for documents to be submitted to Zhejiang, Yiwu City can take charge," said Zheng Yumin, Director of Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce, when signing an agreement with Yiwu to promote a pilot project on comprehensive reform of international economy and trade. Such a privilege policy will benefit 160,000 business players in Yiwu.

Yiwu is a forerunner in market-oriented economy. To achieve more, Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce has worked out 15 tailor-made policy packages for Yiwu, covering cultivation of market players, conservation of financial capital, establishment of high-end international platforms and brand protection.

Insiders pointed out, "There are at least 134 markets nationwide under the name of Yiwu Commodity City. If enterprises had implemented brand protection and engaged in commercial distribution, such a disruptive situation would not have arisen." Political packages newly released thus focus on IPR protection and utilization.

New policies allow Yiwu to initially examine and directly recommend provincial famous trademarks. Furthermore, Zhejiang Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce will urge SAIC to grant Yiwu more rights to manage and examine well-known trademarks.

Meanwhile, Yiwu is establishing itself into a demonstration city in regard to the implementation of the national trademark strategy. Brand is bound to play an active role in the economic transformation and upgrading of the city in discussion.
