2011/08/26

Since the launch of a special campaign on combating intellectual property infringement and counterfeit commodities in October 2010, the Administration for Industry and Commerce of Sanya, a city of south China's Hainan Province, has severely tackled IPR crimes and effectively safeguarded a fair market order.

During the special campaign, the administration targeted key areas including retail and wholesale markets, shopping malls and supermarkets, covering a wide range of industries such as printing companies and specialty stores, and randomly conducted inspection and supervision on business entities, said an official with the administration.

Local leading group of the special campaign has been keeping eyes on new-open stores selling commodities of well-know brands and has invited registered manufacturers owning those brands to jointly examine whether the sold products have infringed on intellectual property rights.

During the period, the administration has investigated 67 cases involving 308.9 thousand yuan, confined 349.3 thousand yuan and confiscated 4,727 cartons of articles. Of all those cases, 37 are associated with foreign trademarks such as LV, GUCCI, ADIDAS and MARC JACOBS, valued at 211.5 thousand yuan.

In addition, the watchdog has tackled crimes on the trafficking of agricultural materials such as seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, veterinary drugs as well as feed and its additives, handled three cases, confined 4.1 thousand yuan, confiscated 350 bales of fake pesticides, revoked the business license from one operator, closed five illegally operated stores, dealt with seven complaints and retrieved 55 thousand yuan economic loss.
