China's largest hydraulic press

2011/08/05

The supporting bracket for China's largest hydraulic press has been installed at an air base in Xi'an, capital of the southwestern province.

At a weight of 2,400 tons and height of 21.5 meters, the bracket is the largest ever built.

Developed by Tsinghua University with full intellectual property rights, the press is capable of exerting 40,000 tons of pressure. It will enable the air base to forge large pieces of iron and steel to make equipment for the aviation industry. It is projected to produce material valued at 3 billion yuan annually.

Foreign aircraft manufacturers have expressed an interest in placing orders for aviation parts made by the press.
